E. J. McDougall

Our Story

The arrival of E. J. McDougall wines marks a new era in the world of high-end Australian wines. Oenologist Edward (Eddie) James McDougall, a well-known figure, has spent more than twenty years exploring prestigious vineyard locations worldwide and learning from top winemakers. His ultimate goal has always been to create an exceptional collection of fine Australian wines.

In 2010, McDougall fulfilled his dream by starting to produce and bottle wines under his own name. He is acknowledged in the industry as a négociant-éleveur, thanks to his enduring relationships with respected vineyard owners, landholders, and winemakers. These connections provide him with access to Australia's best resources for making and bottling his highly sought-after wines.

McDougall firmly believes that Margaret River in Western Australia and McLaren Vale in South Australia are Australia's top grape-growing regions, on par with acclaimed global regions like Bordeaux, Tuscany, California, and the Northern Rhone Valley. The wines under the E. J. McDougall brand are sourced exclusively from well-established vineyards, some dating back to 1939, and come from individual vineyard sites to enhance their authenticity.

McDougall's hope is that wine enthusiasts who enjoy his wines will do so with respect and admiration for the ancient craft, as he aims to share his passion for winemaking with a worldwide audience.
